Bruce Mcguire does not have to travel far to make the Hilltop Ranch Chardonnay. Made out of 100% Sta. Rita Hills fruit, from grapes sourced just North of the Lafond Vineyard, this Chardonnay showcases the hallmarks of cool climate grapes grown in gravel rich soil.
The vines are 34 years old and are self rooted. This allows all of the unique characteristics of the terroir to concentrate into each berry.
Winemaker Comments: 2017 was a cooler vintage than 2016 and was therefore picked 11 days later. Crisp apple and bright dense fruit from 35 year old self-rooted vines adds to a concentrated wine with great length of flavor.
Tasting Notes: This Chardonnay is pale gold, moving to platinum around the edges of the glass. Distinct aromas of yellow apple, candied pineapple, and vanilla greet the nose. Full flavors of baked apple pie and starfruit are followed by subtle crème brulée. Pair this rich, full-bodied white wine with lobster risotto, roasted chicken, or gruyere cheese.
