Sustainability in Practice Certified Wine
The Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a blend of seven different clones grown on two contiguous vineyards. Winemaker Bruce Mcguire balances fruit from Lafond Vineyard and Burning Creek Ranch to create a distinct and nuanced wine.
Located in Sta. Rita Hills, both vineyard sites benefit from the offshore breeze, coastal fog, and the river deposited soils. And with multiple clones to work with, Bruce has the flexibility each year to create a delicious vintage.
Lafond Vineyard is ideally situated to produce Pinot Noir exhibiting the unique and exotic flavor profile one finds in only a few regions of the world. Specific areas within our vineyard exhibit elevated concentration and complexity due to soil type and exposure to the elements. We have planted eight distinct clones of Pinot Noir, each with subtle differences in flavor and aroma.
Tasting Notes: The 2017 Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir is a deep ruby color. Delicate aromas of raspberries and violets combine with mild notes of cherry cola. Stewed Bing cherry, truffle and dried lavender complete the palate. This light-bodied red wine has strong tannins, and can easily stand up to smoked meats, game birds, or teriyaki salmon.
