The Sta. Rita Hills Syrah blends fruit from two contiguous vineyard sites in the heart of the Sta. Rita Hills. Lafond Vineyard and Hilltop Ranch both produce cool climate Syrahs noted for their prominent spice notes.
Winemaker Bruce McGuire blends a small portion (four percent) of Grenache to balance the wine, adding a bit of bright red fruit flavor.
Tasting Notes: The 2016 Sta. Rita Hills Syrah is a deep maroon color with rich purple undertones. Aromas of stewed plums, baking spices, and green pepper greet the nose. Flavors of plum continue across the palate with smashed blackberries, and white pepper. Drink this full-bodied red alongside a lamb shank, grilled eggplant, or a good burger.
