Moving Red Wine

7.11.13-tanker-3We are almost at the end of moving our red wine from Lafond Winery to Santa Barbara Winery to be bottled. These are large quantity lots which are almost impossible to move by barrel alone.

The wine is removed from barrels and put into a holding stainless steel tank then transferred to a tanker truck. The truck then brings the wine to Santa Barbara, an hour drive, where it is transferred again to stainless steel tanks where the cold stabilization process begins.

In one of the photos you can see ice forming below the insulated jacket as the temperature drops below freezing. Another photo shows the barrel cleaner which is set on a sequence timer beginning with hot water and finishing with cold water saturated with ozone gas.
