The original Lafond Vineyards were first planted in 1972 and with subsequent planting the total acreage now is just under 100 acres.
The main plantings are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah, in that order, with smaller blocks of Riesling and Grenache.
The vineyards are in the Santa Rita Hills appelation a small viticulture area in the western end of the Santa Ynez Valley.
The proximity to the ocean and the narrowness of the valley make this one of the coolest growing areas in California ideal for the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
As the valley widens into the Santa Ynez Valley there is approximately a one degree rise in temperature for each mile inland.
With over 30 years experience we are gradually replanting many of our old blocks with varieties and clones that have adapted well to our 'terroir'.
