The original Lafond Vineyards were first planted in 1972 and with subsequent planting the total acreage now is just under 100 acres.
The main plantings are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah, in that order, with smaller blocks of Riesling and Grenache.
The vineyards are in the Santa Rita Hills appelation a small viticulture area in the western end of the Santa Ynez Valley.
The proximity to the ocean and the narrowness of the valley make this one of the coolest growing areas in California, ideal for the growing of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
